Effect of Low Dose Gamma Irradiation on Some Phytochemicals and Scavenger Ability of in Vitro Culantro (Eryngium foetidum L.) Plantlets

This research work aimed to enhance the concentration of some bioactive compounds in culantro (Eryngium foetidum L.) plantlets through gamma irradiation (0.0, 10.0, 20.0 and 40.0 Gy range) treatments. Gamma irradiation at 40.0 Gy significantly stimulated total phenolic, flavonoids, tannin and saponin contents. The effect of irradiation on antioxidant properties of culantro extracts was investig...

A protocol for in vitro regeneration of Eryngium foetidum L

Eryngium foetidum L. is an important plant cultivated as leafy vegetable and for its essential oil, which is of high economical value in international market. Multiple shoots (17.8) were obtained through direct regeneration from leaf excised from field grown plants of E. foetidum and cultured on Linsmaier and Skoog’s Basal Medium (LSBM) fortified with BAP (1.5 mgl) and PVP (250 mgl). After subc...

In Vitro Somatic Embryogenesis in Eryngium Foetidum L. – a Medicinal Herb

High frequency somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration was achieved on calli developed from internodal and flower buds of E. foetidum. The explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with different concentrations and combinations of BA and IAA. The nodal explants produced multiple adventitious shoots while the internodal and flower buds induced callus, from which mult...
